Desafiando Sombras is a collective that was created during the pandemic in Vigo, Spain, and whose members are poets and a few visual artists. Stella Maris González Balbuena leads the group. Desafiando Sombras organizes and participates in poetry readings and, on occasion, invites other poets or musicians to join them. For several years, Desafiando Sombras has been meeting to recite poetry purely for the love of art. They often collaborate with local publishers and art projects in Vigo, and organize readings focused on special dates, such as World Poetry Day, International Translation Day, and International Women’s Day (March 8th). At their events, such as those held at the Évame Oroza A.C. center, they invite the public to read texts aloud. Desafiando Sombras “wants to delve deeper into poetry, to bring us closer to its essence; that’s why we recite poems of our own creation and also those of great authors.”
